As part of the National Vaccination Insights project, researchers at the University of Sydney Social and Behavioural Insights in Immunisation (SABII) research group conduct annual national surveys to understand the behavioural and social drivers of influenza vaccination among Australian adults.

While the surveys provide important insights into factors associated with vaccination intentions, they do not fully explain why people make vaccination decisions or what support they need to get vaccinated.

To explore these questions in greater depth, the researchers followed the 2025 national survey with a qualitative study. Between May and June 2025, the team interviewed 15 adults from across Australia.

The participants were chosen to reflect a mix of ages and genders, and lived in different parts of Australia. They also came from a range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, and had different domestic living arrangements and health profiles.
