Addition of new fields

Two new reporting fields have been added:

  1. Vaccine Type
  2. Route of Administration

The Vaccine Type field will become mandatory on 1 March 2024. From the same date, the Route of Administration field will become mandatory for Japanese encephalitis vaccines only.

1. Vaccination Type

Under the Vaccine Type field, vaccination providers will be able to choose from the following options:

  • Antenatal
  • NIP/Commonwealth
  • Private
  • State Program.

  • Vaccination providers can only select one of the four options above.
  • The Antenatal option should be selected when the person presenting is pregnant at the time the vaccine is administered, regardless of whether the vaccine is funded privately, under the NIP, or under a state or territory program.
  • COVID-19 vaccines should be reported as NIP/Commonwealth

2. Route of Administration

Under the Route of Administration field – which will be mandatory for Japanese encephalitis vaccines only – vaccination providers will be able to choose from the following options:

  • Oral
  • Subcutaneous
  • Intradermal
  • Intramuscular.

AIR043A – Vaccine Details report

The new AIR043A – Vaccine Details report is available for vaccination providers through the AIR site. Vaccination providers can use this report to extract and reconcile vaccination information that they have previously reported to the AIR. The report contains information about the individual they have vaccinated and the relevant vaccine details (such as vaccine brand, vaccine type and route of administration).

Pharmacies participating in the National Immunisation Program Vaccinations in Pharmacies (NIPVIP) Program may find this report useful for reconciling vaccinations provided when lodging claims for payment with the Pharmacy Programs Administrator. Further information about the AIR043A report is available on the Services Australia website.

COVID-19 and Influenza Immunisation History Statement available to be shared to digital wallets

The COVID-19 and Influenza Immunisation History Statement (IHS) can now be shared to digital wallets to enable easy access to proof of vaccination. The COVID-19 Digital Certificate has now been decommissioned.

The existing IHS – which displays all vaccination information that has been recorded on the AIR, including COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations – will remain available for use. Further information about the IHS and proof of vaccination is available on the Services Australia website.

National Immunisation Program Vaccinations in Pharmacy (NIPVIP) Program update

The NIPVIP Program Rules and Frequently Asked Questions are now live on the Pharmacy Programs Administrator website.
