This report provides a comprehensive evaluation of factors influencing the quality and completeness of Indigenous status for vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) in the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS).

In 2016–2019 Indigenous status completeness at the national level was over 90% for most VPDs in the NNDS, but lower for influenza (37.4%), pertussis (59.2%) and rotavirus (69.7%), all of which are high incidence diseases either fully or predominantly notified by laboratories, with some variation by jurisdiction and age group.
